How it all started…

IMG_1922L-201x300The idea for The Tasty Tart came about as a result of some of the participants at the cookery school requesting some private cookery lessons. As I thought about it, I realised that people love to have a bit of a laugh, maybe a glass of wine or two and cook a scrumptious meal.

Having attended some cookery schools and the very formal Cordon Bleu in Paris, I felt that people would enjoy a relaxed, informal, homely approach to learning new cookery skills. The first group of ladies that came to my house loved the idea of being in somebody’s home as if they were invited to a dinner party.

The evening or day is designed around what YOU would like to do. Whether you want to get stuck in and “get your hands dirty” or would prefer to just relax and watch how a meal comes together, The Tasty Tart promises a fun and delicious experience. If you are new to the kitchen or would like to hone your skills, we can design a session around your preferences.

Who is The Tasty Tart?

IMG_1678-196x300My name is Tara Walker a.k.a. The Tasty Tart. I grew up in the restaurant business which is where I first learned about food from my Dad who is a keen cook and I spent many summer and Christmas holidays working in the family business.

I graduated from Trinity College with a degree in Business Studies and Political Science but I always felt the pull of the restaurant business- going straight from college to a position as assistant manager in a well known Dublin restaurant and later going to Edinburgh where I managed a French restaurant. I went on to work in the kitchen of the family business and found I much preferred cooking to working front of house.

During my spare time and holidays, I went to some amateur cookery courses in Ballymaloe and Fairyhouse Cookery School where I realised I would really love to teach cookery and indulge my love of food. In a life changing step, I left the family business to study professionally at the world famous Cordon Bleu in Paris to hone my skills. Following from there, I completed a stage at the Michelin starred Chapter One in Dublin.

I also teach part time at the ICA’s headquarters- An Grianan in Termonfeckin and at Fairyhouse Cookery School in Co. Meath.

Together with my husband, Rob we run a training and consultancy business that helps SME’s in Ireland. I love helping small food businesses grow and prosper. For more information on our consultancy services, please go to www.consultcatalyst.ie

Where we are…

The Tasty Tart is located in the picturesque village of Termonfeckin in Co. Louth. The long sandy beach and beautiful country views make Termonfeckin ideal setting. The village has a busy farm shop selling home grown produce and neighbours the fishing village of Clogher Head where fish can be bought straight off the boat, making local fresh ingredients an integral part of The Tasty Tart experience.
